Last year I commented on the website for HQ Chester, a prestigious mixed-use development next to the racecourse. At the time of that post, the website was blank, except for a single logo, which didn't describe anything. Some time after that, the site changed, and was filled with content. Despite this, I still think it's not a great website.
In the real world, the site has been cleared, and now appears to consist of a hole in the ground, with a huge crane in the middle. There's nothing there that makes you think it'll be interesting or encourage you to find out more. On the web the story is pretty much the same. The first thing that you notice is that the site is written in Flash. I am not a fan of sites written in Flash. It makes it slower than it could be. The second thing is that there is a lack of information. Until recently the only information revelaed was that there would be flats, offices and a hotel. If you wanted any more information, you needed to register, which doesn't encourage you to find out more, as you may end up getting marketed to.
